Kamal gets three medals in America
In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Nepali martial artists Kamal Magar and Anup Thapa have made their mark at the International Battle of Daytona, held on October 26-27 in Florida.
Kamal Magar, a seasoned competitor, secured two gold medals in the men’s black belt soft style and traditional Chinese weapons categories. Additionally, he earned a silver medal in the Grand Champion Open Forms, showcasing his versatility and expertise across different disciplines. This latest achievement adds to Magar’s already impressive medal tally, which includes six gold, three silver, and four bronze medals from various international competitions throughout his career.
Magar’s previous accolades include a gold and silver at the 2018 World Championships in Thailand, a gold and bronze at the 2018 WUMA World Championships in England, and two golds at the 2019 World Martial Arts Games in Croatia. His consistent performance has established him as a formidable competitor on the world stage, and he has also contributed to the sport as a judge in numerous national and international events.
Anup Thapa also delivered a commendable performance, winning gold in the men’s under 70 kg oriental boxing lightweight category. He further added to his medal collection with a silver in both light contact and MMA light open class, as well as a bronze in the kick light section. Thapa’s achievements are a testament to his dedication and skill, having previously won four gold medals at various editions of the Suk Wan Kingthong tournament in Tokyo, Japan.
The event was overseen by Siddhartha Lama Tamang, president of the Nepal WUMA Kung Fu Association and an international judge, who played a crucial role in ensuring the competition ran smoothly. Tamang, along with Magar and Thapa, represented Nepal with pride, further solidifying the country’s reputation in martial arts.
