Bagmati Province Crowned Champions at 7th National WUMA Kung Fu Championship

Bagmati Province has claimed the championship title at the 7th National WUMA Kung Fu Championship, held on Saturday. The team secured an impressive total of 19 gold medals, showcasing their dominance in the tournament. Koshi Province followed in second place with 13 gold medals, while Gandaki Province finished third with 7 gold medals.

The event featured competition among 175 athletes, who participated in 39 events, including Sanda, Taichi, and Pattern. Rakesh Kulung Rai and Aronia Shree from Bagmati Province were honored as the best players in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. Their outstanding performances contributed significantly to Bagmati’s overall success in the tournament.

The tournament was inaugurated by Minister for Youth and Sports, Tejulal Chaudhary, who appreciates the WUMA Kung Fu Association for its remarkable progress and organization, especially given the limited resources available. In recognition of their contributions to the sport, Minister Chaudhary presented letters of appreciation to the association’s president, Sanjit Kumar Rai, vice president Bhupendra Gurung, and general secretary, Kamal Magar, all of whom are also international judges and have represented Nepal in various international competitions. Additionally, Deepak Shrestha, the chief coach of WUMA Kung Fu, received an award for his role.

The organizing committee ensured that all participants, especially those traveling from outside the valley, were well taken care of, providing food, accommodation, and transportation throughout the event.

Reflecting on the event’s significance, Sanjit Kumar Rai, President of the National WUMA Kung Fu Association Nepal, stated, “The 7th National WUMA Kung Fu Championship has not only highlighted the exceptional talent of our athletes but has also strengthened the bonds of sportsmanship among the provinces. This event paves the way for future competitions and signifies our commitment to advancing martial arts.”
